Artist Statement
Artist Statement Film, 2023
My practice works across film, sound, photography, installation and participatory approaches to explore how personal experience becomes part of collective memory. Trained as a documentary maker, I approach art as a form of listening: paying attention to the stories, objects, images and fragments through which we make sense of our lives. I am drawn to the spaces between things: between people, between what is said and what is felt, between one history and another and to what remains unresolved or unsaid. At a time when complex experiences are increasingly compressed into simplified, shareable stories, I want my work to slow that process down — to return to the particular, the embodied and the lived, and to create space for genuine encounter. In the end, I am interested in the ways we make, carry and transform one another's stories, and in how art might make us feel a little less alone.
What lives and what dies in the process of making?
